William L. Lindsey Sr.

BRANDON — William L. Lindsey Sr., 83, passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon. Visitation is from 5 until 9 tonight at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, in the chapel of the funeral home with interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.
Mr. Lindsey was born in Clarksdale to Linard Francis Lindsey and Odie Jane Bishop Lindsey on Feb. 21, 1926. He was a Christian, a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Brandon and formerly a member of McLaurin Heights Baptist Church in Pearl and was an ordained deacon. Mr. Lindsey was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and earned a Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.
Mr. Lindsey loved his family and, especially, his grandchildren. He loved to work in his yard and his shop, working with small engines. He also loved hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Iva M. Lindsey of Brandon; son, William Leon Lindsey Jr. of Lawton, Okla.; daughters, Diane Lindsey Fuller (Billy) of Brandon and Carolyn Lindsey Yelverton (Jim) of Brandon; sister, Ruby Tunnell of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and one fat dog, Suzy.
