Vulgar sum of money

Recently I had a letter in the Post about the Washington Street bridge over the railroad at Clark Street.
The city had said $425,000 of the $5 million that had been set aside for the bridge had been spent on “planning and designing.” I felt this was such a vulgar sum that taxpayers deserved an answer. I still do.
If someone were paid $500 per hour, that would be $20,000 per week or $80,000 per month. That means the job would have taken well over five months. A “planner and designer” would need only one job like this about every three years to live in comfort.
Folks, any way you slice it that is one heck of a bunch of “planning and designing” and I haven’t heard anyone questioning these figures.
As I have said before, there is a dead snake in the creek and it is getting bigger instead of going away.
Anyone who isn’t concerned enough to ask questions and expect answers must be brain dead.
