Missy Gators rip Honey Bees

David Case has several wins in youth league soccer, but on Friday night at Memorial Stadium, he picked up his first win as a high school soccer coach as the Vicksburg Missy Gators slammed Greenville-Weston 8-0.
The win was key for the Missy Gators (6-4-2, 2-1 division), moving them into sole possession of second place in the four-team division.
“I was really proud of the girls for working hard this week in practice and then putting those things we worked on into the game,” Case said. “We controlled ourselves emotionally in a game that got heated out there.”
Going down 3-0 just 10 minutes into the contest was enough for Greenville-Weston to get a bit chippy with the Missy Gators.
“They were pretty unsportsmanlike,” Missy Gator forward Lexi Foster said. Foster had a big hand in making the Honey Bees mad by scoring three goals, a career high.
“I guess it’s the first time,” Foster said of the hat trick.
She was glad to see Case get his first win since taking over for long-time coach Kevin Manton, who resigned earlier this month.
“It was good to get it for him. I like him. Tonight we played together as a team. We did a lot better with our passes,” Foster said.
That was evident early on as Raven Lawrence took a corner kick and headed in a goal for a 1-0 lead just 2:34 into the match. Just 45 seconds later, Foster got her first goal from 15 yards out on a feed from Tabitha Hayden. It was also the first of three assists for Hayden.
Foster scored again at the 10:20 mark. Hayden got the first of two goals by knocking in a penalty kick at the 27th minute.
Maya Thomas made it 5-0 off a Hayden assist in the 35th minute.
Hayden got her second goal four minutes deep into the second half to extend the margin to 6-0. Thomas capped the Missy Gator romp by scoring off a header from a pass by Lawrence and then set up Foster’s final goal.
Vicksburg had 22 shots on goal against a busy Honey Bee keeper, Danielle Williams. Greenville had just one shot on goal and only two balls had to be fielded by keepers, both by Robin Cooper, who took over for Kelli Brewer in the second half.
The Missy Gators will be back in action today against Oak Grove and Sacred Heart.

Chucky Hayden scored three goals and Keaton Jones had two as the Gators stayed alive for a Class 6A playoff berth with a win Friday.
“We needed the win, but I was disappointed we gave up those two goals,” VHS coach Jason Bennett said. “Still, we were able to keep our goal differential up to four.”
There were other positives as well. Eighth grader Chris Green scored and Jones, who normally plays in the back, came up to score two goals.
Vicksburg (6-8-2) will close out the 2009 portion of its schedule today in Hattiesburg against Petal and Oak Grove.
