The Charles J. Miller was built in 1925 in Indiana and operated along with the George W. Miller, built the next year, as ferry boats until the river bridge was constructed in 1930. She then was sold to Capt. A.C. Johnson of Helena, Ark., and the name was changed to The General. In 1944, a New Orleans firm bought her and named her the Warren Johnson, and in 1946 she was sold to L.H. Simkins of Savannah, Ga. This photo, taken in the 1930s, is from the collection of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
