Park sites closing on holiday eves

The Vicksburg National Military Park Visitor Center and USS Cairo Museum will close for Christmas at noon Thursday and reopen Saturday.

Hours will be the same for the following weekend, New Year’s.

The shortened schedule comes with President Barack Obama’s executive order for a four-hour federal holiday on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and full holidays on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The park tour road will remain open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. throughout the holidays.
