Bernice Moore Gordon

PORT GIBSON — Bernice Moore Gordon died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, in Jackson. She was 84.
Mrs. Gordon was a member of St. Luke Christian Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a member and past president of the Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the Pastors’ Wives Association, Christian Aid and the Retired Teachers Association.
She taught in the Claiborne County and Sharkey County schools for more than 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Lillian Parker Moore; her husband, the Rev. Anthony Gordon; and six brothers, two sisters and two stepsons.
Survivors include a son, Lester Patton of Bolton; three stepsons, Robert Gordon of Clarksdale, Anthony Gordon of Chicago and Thomas Gordon of Broadview, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Sarah G. Chambliss of Port Gibson; two brothers, Eugene Moore of Bolton and Singleton Moore of Clinton; three sisters, Gladys Williams and Mary Moore, both of North Chicago, and Margie Bell Smith of Memphis; 29 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church with Elder Walter Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
