Northwest Rankin defeats Missy Gators|Prep basketball

The Lady Cougars used an 8-2 run to close out the third quarter and turn a two-point game at 37-35 into a 45-37 lead going into the fourth quarter. Vicksburg had top scorer Donyeah Mayfield foul out with 4:55 left and Northwest went on to a 65-47 victory.

The Lady Cougars (12-4) advance to face New Hope tonight at 7 in a semifinal contest. Vicksburg (8-5) faces Ridgeland, who lost to New Hope 49-32 Monday afternoon. For the Missy Gators, the loss to Northwest was their first road loss of the season.

Mayfield left the game with a game-best 23 points and seven rebounds. Despite her scoring, the Missy Gators struggled offensively with 23 turnovers. Shanequa Hill had 10 points and six boards while Alexus Stirgus had eight points, five assists and four steals.

Northwest was led by Marianne Bilbro with 18 and Taylor Beverly had 15.
