Charles Edward Crowther

Charles Edward Crowther died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. He was 87.
A native of Zimmerman, La., Mr. Crowther graduated in 1942 from Yazoo City High School and served with the Marine Corps in the Philippines and China in World War II. He received a Bachelor of Science degree and a master’s degree from Louisiana State University in forestry and wildlife management.
Mr. Crowther retired in 1985, having worked for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s River Basins Office and as a biologist for the U.S. Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Crowther Hegman; and a brother, Carl Lewis Crowther.
Survivors include his wife, Annabelle K. Crowther of Vicksburg; two sons, Edward Riley Crowther of Alamosa, Colo., and Carl Koonce Crowther of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Carol Verbeck of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Frances Routh of Alamo, Calif.; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the service.
Pallbearers will be Tom Hill, Durwood Tadlock, Calvin Pugh, David Haworth, Carl Terry Hudson and Mark Chaney.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Boaz Sunday school class.
