Wayne Quintin Nevels

Wayne Quintin Nevels died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. He was 81.
Mr. Nevels was born in Fayette, Miss., the son of James Allen Nevels and Mattie Brown Nevels.
He was a 1947 graduate of Carr Central High School in Vicksburg, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1953. He was a resident of Vicksburg for most of his life where employment included Spencer Chemical Company, The Vicksburg Terminal Company, Capital Security Company and Blackburn Motor Company. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg, American Legion Post No. 3 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2572.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Edgar Nevels, Brown Allen Nevels and Joseph Raymond Nevels; and one sister, Mary Nevels Gordon Hebler.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruth K. Nevels of Vicksburg; three daughters, Marilyn Corley of Vicksburg; Robin Beard of Baton Rouge, La.; and Anne Greenwood of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Stephen Corley, Amanda Corley, Leslie Beard Lawhun, Kevin Beard and Nicholas Greenwood; a great-grandchild, Cameron Corley; two sisters, Virginia Nevels Williams of Wharton, Texas, and Martha Nevels Evans of Vicksburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Chris Nevels, DeWayne Nevels, Michael Nevels, Terry Nevels, Brown Nevels, David Pugh, Jay Tidwell, Stephen Corley and Kevin Beard.
Special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Shady Lawn Nursing Home.
Services will be Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home. with burial at Green Acres Memorial Park. The Rev. Tim Brown will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today and from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
