McCOMB — Jimmie Carstarphen of McComb died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at his home in McComb. He was 78.
Mr. Carstarphen was born in Wilcox, Ala., to Roland Sigler Jr. and Janie Carstarphen. He was a laborer for Illinois Central Railroad. He served in the Army from 1952 until 1955 and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church of McComb, where he served on the trustee and usher boards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles E. Carstafhnur; two brothers, John Packer and Dobby Sigler; and two sisters, Rosa Lee Packer Smith and Jewel Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Carstarphen of McComb; two sons, Jimmie D. Carstafhnur of McComb and Franklin E. Carstafhnur of Lindale, Texas; two daughters, Janice Carstafhnur of Vicksburg and Capri C. Crain of McComb; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive M.B. Church, 716 12th St. in McComb, with the Rev. Jay Lee Harrell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood North Cemetery in McComb. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at Peoples Funeral Home in McComb.
