Garfield Wilkerson died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 90.

Mr. Wilkerson was a self-employed carpenter and World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army. He was a native of Warren County and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Wilkerson; brothers, Joe Wilkerson, Johnny Wilkerson and James Wilkerson; and sisters, Esterine Wilkerson and Myrtle Wilkerson.

Survivors include his sons, Roy Wilkerson of Chicago, Monroe Giles of Stockton, Calif., and James Giles and Joesph Giles, both of Vicksburg; daughters, Myrtle Adams and Theresa Tillman, both of Vicksburg, and Sterling Ann Peggins of Memphis; 27 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and others.
