I would like to take time out to pass on my thanks and appreciation for Bubba Rainer, the Water and Gas Administration, police officers and firefighters for a job well done that began win a break in a water main in my neighborhood around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Working in temperatures around 13 degrees to 20 degrees, the repairs to the line approximately 4 feet deep were made that evening.
That line was laid about 60 years ago with war surplus pipe from Camp McCain in Grenada during Mayor E.W. Haining’s administration. I know this as I am the last of the Mohicans left among the original residents of the neighborhood of approximately 60 to 70 houses.

‘Army’ helped Army
We want to say thank you to the many individuals, businesses and groups who, through volunteer service, monetary contributions and their remarkable generosity in both areas, enable The Salvation Army to serve those in need.
Thank you to our businesses that provided sites for our Red Kettle Campaign. We want to send another big thank you to the organizations that served as volunteer bell-ringers. We are also grateful to the civic clubs and churches that contributed to our fund-raiser.
With their contributions and adoptions, we were able to provide 343 families help with Christmas dinner by distributing Walmart gift cards. Through the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program this year, 852 children received toys and clothing. In addition, we were able to help 180 nursing home residents and elderly receive Christmas gifts and necessities.
With heartfelt gratitude, we thank our Army of Volunteers.
Thank you to the volunteers from The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, who are involved in every aspect of The Angel Tree Program. Thank you to all of the companies, businesses, and organizations, who contributed their time, talents and resources to this Christmas season’s efforts.
Thank you once again on behalf of the men, women and children we serve!
