Gladys Marie Garner Barnette

Gladys Marie Garner Barnette died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 87.

Born in Truman, Ark., she lived in Vicksburg most of her life, rearing her family and serving her church. She was better known to friends as Mrs. “B” and grandmother or Nana to more than 100 grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Candlelighters Sunday school class and Keenagers choir.

Survivors include six sons, Milford Barnette (Frieda) of Edwards, Billy Barnette of West Point, Doug Barnette (Linda Jane) of Muncie, Ind., Robert Barnette of Natchez, Terry Barnette (Angie) of Flowood and James Barnette of Vicksburg; and four daughters, Bettye Oakes (Donald), Janice Parker and Tricia Ross (Stan), all of Vicksburg, and Carolyn Wilkerson of Tupelo. She is also survived by a brother, Wiley Garner (Bernice) of Biloxi and a sister, Onnie Renfroe of West Memphis, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Maggie Garner; husband, Clyde Barnette; a brother, Gilbert Garner; a son, Bobby Barnette; and grandson, Kevin Barnette.

Visitation will be tonight from 5 until 7 at Riles Funeral Home. Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dwight Turner and the Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres in Vicksburg.

Pallbearers are grandsons Davey Barnette, Billy Barnette Jr., George Barnette, Tom Pharr, Shane Parker, Toby Wilkerson, Justin Barnette, Craig Ross and Blake Barnette.

Honorary pallbearers are grandsons Danny Barnette, Kerry Barnette, Mike Parker, Bubba Parker, Jason Barnette, Frank Barnette, Chris Barnette and Ken Barnette.
