One of two Vicksburg men charged Friday in federal court in Jackson with child sexual abuse was still at large this morning, a spokesman with the U.S. attorney’s office in Jackson said.

Bryan Neihaus, 21, 452 Tilton Ranch Road, is wanted for a Nov. 11 offense, based on a video found stored on his laptop computer, said Sheila Wilbanks.

John Crumpler, age unavailable, 2957 Mount Alban Road, appeared in federal court Tuesday for an initial hearing. Crumpler is charged with a July 9, 2008, video recording also found on Neihaus’ computer.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Tuesday that FBI agents contacted him last week to ask deputies to “be on the lookout for” Neihaus. Deputies were alerted but Pace was told later that Neihaus had been located in north Mississippi and the local search had been called off.

Neihaus and Crumpler were charged after an FBI investigation turned up child pornography on Neihaus’ personal computer, the FBI affidavit shows.

Crumpler’s residence was searched by the FBI Thursday after agents executed a search warrant. During the investigation, agents learned Neihaus’ address and went to his home to question him, the document shows.

Neihaus voluntarily allowed agents to search his laptop. Forensic evaluation turned up “numerous videos and images” of child pornography, including a video of Neihaus abusing a “pre-pubescent” boy, the FBI affidavit reads.

Neihaus’ computer also includes a video file showing Crumpler setting up a camera in what appears to be a bathroom. The 17-minute video then shows Crumpler assisting a girl, also described as pre-pubescent, in showering, washing her hair and drying off, according to the affidavit.

Neihaus shared a residence with Crumpler for a period of time, the affidavit states.

The cases are being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Jackson, Wilbanks confirmed. She said she could not comment further.

The complaints and accompanying affidavits do not cite the origin of the complaints.

Federal law makes it a crime to entice or coerce a minor to engage in sexual acts for the purpose of producing visual images, or to permit a minor in one’s custody to be filmed for sexual purposes.

Neihaus had been found guilty in Warren County Circuit Court in January of violating probation resulting from previous arrests on March 6, 2008, for grand larceny and May 9, 2009, for burglary of a business, for which he had been indicted by the grand jury days before the Nov. 11 video of the sexual assault. Circuit judges Isadore Patrick and M. James Chaney had sentenced him to concurrent one-year terms in the Mississippi Department of Corrections Intensive Supervision Program, or house arrest.

No previous record could be found on Crumpler, and no details of his arrest were available.
