A Vicksburg mother and her five children were treated and released from River Region Medical Center after a morning fire at their home at 535 Hall Road.

Theresa Odoms, 31, was awakened by a smoke alarm set off by smoke from flames in a rear room at about 5:30 a.m., Vicksburg Deputy Fire Chief Mark Hales said.

Odoms and her five children ages 3 to 14 were able to get out of the house but inhaled smoke on the way, Hales said. All were taken to River Region Medical Center by ambulance before being treated and released, said hospital spokesman Allen Karel.

The flames were extinguished within minutes and confined to one room, Hales said.
