Jackson man surrenders in beating of robbery victim

A Jackson man surrendered to police Thursday night in the beating of a 64-year-old man.
Louis John “Billy” Brown, 58, 227 Eastview Drive, was charged at 7:46 p.m. with burglary, aggravated assault and armed robbery, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Brown is accused of having a weapon when he broke into the home in the 1500 block of Spring Street at about 2:45 a.m. and taking about $700, Stewart said.
Police found the victim lying on the floor of his home.
The victim was no longer at River Region Medical Center this morning, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said, but it was not known if he was transferred to another hospital or released.
Claiborne man due in court today
A Claiborne County man charged Thursday with the shooting death of his cousin was expected in court for an initial hearing this morning, said Sheriff Frank Davis.
Ricky Flowers, 18, 2087 Valley of the Moon Road, is accused of killing his cousin, Kendrick Ward, 22. The two shared a home, and the shooting took place there Wednesday night.
Ward was taken to University Medical Center where he died at 4 a.m. Thursday. He had been shot once in the chest with a handgun, Davis said.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown, the sheriff said. There were no witnesses.
County man held for cocaine sale
A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail this morning charged with the sale of cocaine.
Kelvin D. White, 33, 4505 Lee Road, was being held without bond.
No details about the arrest were available.
Woman released after wreck
A wreck Thursday afternoon on Confederate Avenue sent a Vicksburg woman to the hospital.
Penny Walker, 40, 3125 Drummond St., was driving a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon that collided with a 1995 Pontiac Firebird driven by Timothy Pee, 24, 106 Colonial Drive, said Vicksburg police Officer Burt Ryan.
Pee, westbound on Confederate, lost control of his car in the rain near Marcus Street and crossed the center line, hitting Walker’s car which was headed east, said Ryan.
Walker was taken to River Region Medical Center where she was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
Jackson woman faces Warren charge
A Jackson woman was arrested at the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond Thursday for a warrant in Vicksburg for uttering a forgery.
Cynthia Jones, 46, 227 Eastview Drive, is accused of trying to cash a $475 BancorpSouth check at Trustmark Bank on U.S. 61 South last year in June, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
Jones was held without bond at the Issaquena County Jail.
Clothes, gym bag missing on Farmer
A residential burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Farmer Street Thursday, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
Clothes and a gym bag were reported stolen from the home at 6:18 p.m. Thursday.
Electronics stolen from county car
Electronics were reported missing in an auto burglary in Warren County, records showed.
A set of 10-inch subwoofers was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of Alice Place at 2:54 p.m. Wednesday.
Pedestrian reports attack by pit bull
A Vicksburg woman and her two small dogs were attacked by a loose pit bull dog at Cherry and Chambers streets Sunday afternoon.
The victim was walking her dogs at about 4 p.m. when the larger dog “came out of nowhere” and attacked one of the smaller animals and threw it into the street, Vicksburg patrolman Kevin Rushing said.
A passer-by who recognized the pit bull stopped and pulled the animal from the small dog, Rushing said. He then tied the dog to a sign pole and alerted the owner.
The victim filed a complaint Sunday afternoon against the pit bull’s owner for being in violation of Vicksburg’s leash law, crime analyst Suzan Ebeling said.
No injuries were reported.
