City man jailed after gun, pot found in car

A Vicksburg man was arrested on a drug charge today.

At 6:44 a.m., Vicksburg police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 100 block of John Allen Street and found Rashan Sims, 25, 122 John Allen St., sitting in a 2002 Hyundai Sonata, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

Patrolmen smelled marijuana in the vehicle and found a bag of marijuana and a .40-caliber Hi-Point handgun, Williams said.

Sims was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and was being held at police headquarters, she said.

Vicksburg woman held for credit-card fraud

A Vicksburg woman was charged Thursday for a Jan. 25 credit-card fraud at Family Dollar Store on Mission 66.

At 11:36 a.m., Carol Clark, 22, 220 Waltersville Estates Apartment B, was arrested in the 1900 block of Washington Street and accused of spending $41 on a stolen credit card, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

Clark was being held at the Warren County Jail without bond pending an initial appearance in court.

Mississippi man held for Missouri

A Forest man was in the Warren County Jail for child neglect, records showed.

Donald Stribling, 52, 87 Burks Circle, was stopped by Mississippi Highway Patrol at 4:55 p.m. on Interstate 20 westbound between Bovina and Vicksburg for a traffic violation, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

After checking his license, they found he was wanted in Missouri, Pace said.

Computers at Hinds among stolen items

Two burglaries were reported in Vicksburg and Warren County Thursday.

A purse and contents were reported stolen from a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 1600 block of Chambers Street at 7:48 a.m., Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

In the county, a Sony DVD player valued at $250 and three Dell desktop computers valued at $1,500 each were reported stolen from a classroom at Hinds Community College on Mississippi 27 at 8:07 a.m.

Four injured in two wrecks

Four people were injured in two wrecks in Vicksburg.

In a wreck at 10 Thursday night, Freddie Ford, 61, 18 Azalea Lane, failed to stop his 1990 Toyota pickup at a stop sign on Gibson Road at Halls Ferry Road and hit a utility pole, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

He was transferred from River Region Medical Center to University Medical Center in Jackson, where a spokesman said this morning he was in fair condition.

In the other accident, three people were treated and released from River Region, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said, after a two-vehicle wreck at Dana Road and U.S. 61 south Thursday morning.

A 2006 Pontiac G6 driven by Ruby Ward, 72, 3696 Redbone Road, struck a 1992 Mazda MX6 driven by Robin M. Segers, 36, 2460 Old Highway 27, which was stopped at a traffic light in the northbound lanes of U.S. 61 South at Dana Road, Vicksburg police Sgt. Jackie Johnson said.

A passenger in Segers’ car, Kailah McKenzie, 17, also of the Old Highway 27 address, was also treated.
