Police were looking for a suspect after gunshots were fired from the balcony of a Washington Street bar Friday night.
The shots followed a fight inside The Upper End, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said. No one was hit, he said, but police were looking for a suspect Saturday.
A disturbance call at the bar at 1306 Washington St. came in around 10 p.m.
“The victim alleged he and another young man got into an altercation in the bar,” Stewart said. “He said they went outside onto the balcony, and the other guy pointed a gun at him and fired.”
The man was not hit, Stewart said, but was taken to River Region Medical Center for cuts to his face from the fight. The man’s identity was not released.
Stewart said the man told police who the shooter was, but declined to file charges. Five shell casings were recovered, he added.
Lisa Ashcraft, who lives on Washington Street less than a block from The Upper End, said she heard seven shots.
“It was unmistakable,” she said. “We’re all just a little bit frazzled down here.”
It’s illegal to shoot a gun in the city limits.
Two weeks ago, 18-year-old Derrick Stamps Jr. was shot and killed outside the Exxon gas station at Mission 66 and Clay Street following a fight at Joanna’s, 3961 N. Washington St., a nightclub in Kings.
