Lorelei Books in downtown Vicksburg will host a book-signing May 19 by author Margaret McMullan.

McMullan will sign copies of “Sources of Light” from 4 to 6 p.m. The book is set in 1962 Jackson during the Civil Rights Era.

The bookstore is located at 1103 Washington St.

Bike rally to raise funds for ACS

The third annual Rally Round the River bike ride will be Saturday at Mound Baptist Church off U.S. 80 in Tallulah.

Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. with the 100-mile ride starting at 10. Entry is $30 per bike and rider.

The event will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Quilts on display in two cities

Quilts from the 22nd annual Pieces and Strings Contest and Show will be on display through April 30 in Port Gibson.

The Mississippi Cultural Crossroads exhibit features African-American, European-American and heirloom quilts. Winning quilts will also be on display May 8-Aug. 1 at the Mississippi Museum of Art, 507 Market St., in Jackson.

CAR members honor war vets

The Sarah Randolph Boone Society of the Children of the American Revolution presented a program, Remembering Our American Patriots, during a meeting of the Ashmead Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Candles were lighted for Revolutionary War ancestors of the children and for Ashmead family members who have served or are serving in 20th century wars.

Attending the program were Bob Bell, Hunter Bell, Matthew Bell, Jacob Breeden, Sally Bell McLean, Carmine Bell, Roeland Bell, Lynn Bell Breeden, Devon Bell, Sarah Hunter Fordice, Annabeth Breeden, Bart Bell and Sallie Fordice.

Annual ZooBrew set for May 14 in Jackson

Jackson Zoo’s third annual ZooBrew will be from 6 to 9 p.m. May 14.

The event will feature specialty beers, live entertainment, a hot-wing cook-off and a getaway raffle. Admission is $35 for Friends of the Zoo and $40 for nonmembers.
