A Vicksburg woman was in the hospital Saturday evening after being thrown from her truck in a wreck just south of Redwood on U.S. 61 North.

Robin Williamson, 48, 136 Wigwam Road, was in fair condition, said River Region Medical Center spokesman Allen Karel.

Williamson was traveling north around 2 p.m. Saturday when witnesses reported the green 1998 Ford Ranger she was driving veered off the highway, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Wayne Smith.

“Over corrective steering caused her to lose control of the vehicle, and she flipped off the shoulder on the east side of the highway,” he said.

The truck ended up upside down about five feet off the highway, Smith said, with Williamson pinned partially beneath.

She was in and out of consciousness after the wreck, said Smith, but did not say where she was headed.

Smith said Williamson wasn’t wearing a seat belt, and was alone.

Mauled child fair; dog euthanized

Jack Gaines, the 2-year-old Vicksburg boy who was mauled by a dog Wednesday, has been moved from the intensive care unit at University Medical Center to a regular room and “is doing OK,” his mother, Robin Causey, said Saturday evening.

The child was in fair condition, a hospital spokesman said.

The toddler has undergone several surgeries to his head and face since being attacked by a 5-year-old, 70-pound cur dog while playing with family at their Stenson Road home. His grandfather, Ira Erwin, pulled the dog off.

Causey said she didn’t know when Jack would return home. But, she said he has opened an eye that was damaged in the attack, giving hope that more surgeries might not be needed.

Meanwhile the dog, named Mojo, was sedated and euthanized at the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society Friday afternoon, and his remains were being tested for rabies, said humane society president Georgia Lynn. The dog’s owner, Sherrie Johnson — Jack’s aunt — signed the dog over to the humane society Thursday, Lynn said.

Donations for medical bills may be made to an account for Jack Gaines and Robin Causey at Regions Bank. Jack’s father is Brad Gaines.
