MSU auctioning off spring game coaching gig

STARKVILLE — Continuing a successful initiative from last spring, Mississippi State will again auction off head coaching positions in the annual Maroon-White Spring Game. The signature event of Super Bulldog Weekend, the spring game is expected to draw in excess of 40,000 fans, and two Bulldog fans will be instrumental in how the game plays out.
Fans can submit bids via email to bulldog-club@athletics.msstate.edu, and bidding will close at 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday. The two highest offers will become the head coach of each team, and the lucky fan will participate in Friday staff meetings as the teams are drafted, give the pregame speech and make tough gameday decisions for their squads.
“It went well last season and we had two wonderful Mississippi State supporters get a new and different look at the gameday experience,” head coach Dan Mullen said. “I’m looking forward to meeting two new fans and letting them take over the hard choices for one game.”
The head coaches will each be outfitted in adidas coaching attire and have access to all the ins-and-outs of the football program throughout the weekend, but as was the case a year ago, there will be rewards for the winner – and consequences for the loser. While prizes and punishments haven’t been decided for this year’s participants, last season the winning team earned a steak dinner while the losing squad picked up trash in Davis Wade Stadium on Sunday morning.
