Teen robbery suspect charged as adult

A teen arrested Sunday on charges of armed robbery will be prosecuted as an adult, officials said this morning.
De’Berrea Malone, 15, 1123 Harrison St., was arrested with James Ransom, 18, 515 Adams St., on Sunday, hours after a man reported being robbed of $13 at gunpoint at 3:11 a.m. in a parking lot in the 1300 block of Washington Street.
Warren County Youth Court Judge Johnny Price transferred Malone’s case from his jurisdiction to Warren County Circuit Court Tuesday, citing the violent nature of the crime, Vicksburg Police Sgt. Sandra Williams said today.
The teens are accused of taking the victim’s wallet, flashing a handgun and fleeing in a silver Buick driven by Richard Williams, 27, 1201 South St.
All three were charged with armed robbery. Williams and Malone were taken to the Warren County Jail, and Malone initially was taken to the Warren County Youth Detention Center.
Today, Williams remained in the Warren County Jail and Malone was being held on a $75,000 bond. Ransom was released on bond Monday.
Husband doused with hot grease
A Vicksburg man was in fair condition at River Region Medical Center today after being burned with hot grease, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.
Wade Gaskin, 47, 2011 Floyd Ave., was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon following an argument with his wife, Aretha Gaskin, 50, who was arrested at their home and charged with domestic violence aggravated assault, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
Aretha Gaskin was released from the Warren County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
City man arrested in theft from woman
A Vicksburg man was released from the Warren County Jail Tuesday on six counts of false pretense.
Carlton Brent Purvis, 38, 5450 Fisher Ferry Road, was arrested at Haining Road and North Washington Street at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and accused of taking $15,000 from an elderly woman whom he had assisted with day-to-day tasks in August, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
She said he debited the woman’s bank account after taking her debit and credit cards.
Purvis was released on a $50,000 bond.
3 thefts reported in Vicksburg
Electronics, furniture and lawn equipment were reported missing in three burglaries Tuesday in Vicksburg, police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
A 32-inch Emerson TV and an Xbox 360 were reported stolen from a home in the 1900 block of Hope Street at 12:06 Tuesday afternoon.
A Sanyo CD/MP3 player valued at $400, a Desktop computer, an antique table and a Pioneer flat-screen TV were reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Oak Street at 3:19 p.m.
About six minutes later, a brick saw, a generator, a tiller, a weed cutter and four tires with rims were reported stolen from a storage building in the 40 block of Brown’s Alley.
