Hinds Community College has added another Warren County player to its ranks.

Warren Central right-hander Jay Harper signed with Hinds on Thursday, becoming the fourth county player to sign with the Raymond school this season. He joins St. Aloysius’ Ryno Martin-Nez and Pierson Waring, and Vicksburg’s Jacob Thomas.

Warren Central center fielder Dee White and St. Al pitcher Stephen Evans have verbally committed to Hinds but not yet signed.

Harper is 4-3 this season, with 34 strikeouts and a 2.85 ERA in 39 1/3 innings. He will start on the mound tonight when the Vikings take on Vicksburg with the Division 4-6A championship on the line.

“We need him to come in and be a big guy off the bat. We think he can be that guy,” said Hinds coach Sam Temple, who will lose eight Division I signees from this year’s squad.
