BOLTON — Two sisters, one from Edwards and one from Jackson, died when their car collided with two other vehicles Monday morning on Interstate 20 near Bolton in Hinds County.

At about 10:30 a.m., Tennyson Thompson, 20, 3502 Mississippi 22 in Edwards was headed east when she lost control of her 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier and crossed the median into the westbound lanes, Highway Safety Patrol spokesman Sgt. James Walker said.

Thompson and her sister, Tashalon Thompson, 26, 2849 Engleside in Jackson, were killed.

The Thompson car collided with a Dodge pickup driven by Eddie Buster, 58, 7100 Barbados in Tarrant, Texas, and another Dodge driven by Ruby Hubbard, 75, 1108 Carnation in Jackson, Walker said. Buster and Hubbard were reported uninjured.

The bodies of both women were taken to Mississippi Mortuary Services in Jackson, Walker said. Arrangements were to be handled by Lakeview Funeral Home.

The women’s aunt, Linda Thompson, said she and Tennyson Thompson lived with Tennyson’s grandmother in Edwards, Martha Thompson.

She said the wreck occurred as the sisters were headed to Jackson from Edwards. “Tennyson had a doctor’s appointment,” she said.

“They were good girls,” she said, “and they had a lot of friends.”

Linda Thompson said her nieces had lived with their mother, Clara Thompson Drake and stepfather Bobby Drake, in Wichita Falls, Texas, before returning to the state a few years ago.

“They liked it better here in Mississippi,” she said.

Tennyson Thompson was a nursing student at Hinds Community College in Raymond, and Tashalon Thompson was the mother of two sons, ages 4 and 6.

Walker said the wreckage held westbound traffic at a near standstill with only one lane open for about three hours. Eastbound lanes were not affected, he said.
