Sydnei Smith had an over-the-fence home run, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Vikes (14-11) fell to DeSoto Central in Game 1 of a Class 6A first-round playoff series on the road.

The series shifts back to Lucy Young Field, weather permitting, with first pitch at 1 p.m. If the Lady Vikes force a Game 3, it will immediately follow Game 2. Mallory Reynolds and Katie Busby doubled for WC. Reynolds took the loss in the circle.
