Air Force Reserve Airman Deren F. Jenkins graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The eight-week program included training in military discipline, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles. He also earned credits toward a degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Louise Porter of Tallulah and is a 2001 graduate of McCall Senior High School.
