Chester Ben Sanders Sr.

Chester Ben Sanders Sr. died Monday, May 10, 2010, at Patient’s Choice Hospital in Port Gibson. He was 89.

Mr. Sanders was a native of West, Texas. He lived in Laurel for a number of years and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 28 years. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Korean Conflict and World War II.

He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He worked as a band director for 16 years and retired from the Mississippi Employment Security Commission after 10 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred “Sandy” Sanders; a granddaughter, Aletheia Ann Thompson; one brother, Robert Sanders; and one sister, Jane Sanders Thornton.

Survivors include a son, Chester Ben Sanders Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Sherry Thompson and Donna Rickey, both of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Fields officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens in Laurel. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
