A 16-year-old Lake Providence girl died Saturday night in a one-vehicle crash in East Carroll Parish, authorities said.
La’Tyreneka Kelly was one of four passengers of a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban that was westbound in the eastbound lane of Louisiana 3181 at about 10 p.m. Saturday when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road, Louisiana State Police Trooper Mark Dennis said.
The SUV hit a ditch before flipping at least once, Dennis said.
Four of the five occupants were ejected, and La’Tyreneka was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Carroll Parish Coroner’s office, Dennis said.
Dennis said La’Tyreneka reportedly had been standing in the middle of the second row of seats in the vehicle with her head out of a sunroof before the crash.
The 16-year-old driver and three 15-year-old passengers, whose names were not given, were taken to the East Carroll Parish Hospital with moderate injuries, Dennis said. Their conditions could not be confirmed without their names.
The driver was cited for careless driving and no driver’s license.
