A high-speed chase from Vicksburg into Hinds County this morning led to two Jackson men being charged with stealing a truck and burglarizing vehicles at three local hotels.

At about 4:25, a patrolman saw Thomas Sherod Caston, 22, 4980 Oak Creek Drive, and his passenger, Jonathan Burns, 18, 2867 Reveer St., speed away from the Marriott Hotel at 1 Underwood Drive in a 2009 Honda Civic, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

The two were arrested after losing control of the car on Norrell Road in Clinton following a chase that took Vicksburg police down U.S. 61 South to Magnolia Road and back to Interstate 20.

The men ran from the car and were captured at 5:49 a.m. near the exit, Stewart said.

Both are accused of taking:

• A Mio GPS from a 2010 Dodge Nitro, and an iPod and 17 DVDs from a 2010 Dodge Charger at the Marriott.

• A Nokia cell phone and charger and a pair of Oakley sunglasses from a 2007 Chevrolet pickup at the Holiday Inn Express, 4370 S. Frontage Road.

• A TomTom GPS from a 2010 Hyundai and a Sony digital camera and a Nintendo DS from a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe at Fairfield Inn, 20 Orme Drive.

• A 2004 Ford Expedition and items from two vehicles at Candlewood Suites, 1296 S. Frontage Road.

Being held at police headquarters at mid morning, Caston and Burns are charged with seven counts of auto burglary and auto theft, Stewart said.

Caston also was charged with felony eluding.

Burns was being held on a $175,000 bond, and Caston on a $200,000 bond, Stewart said.

Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said this morning he believed today’s burglaries could be related to the car burglaries reported at the hotels in August, November and last summer.
