At a special called meeting Monday afternoon to meet a deadline, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen authorized the advertisement for sealed bids for two Natural Resources Conservation Service projects.
“We are contracting two NRCS erosion control projects,” said Public Works Director Bubba Rainer. “When you enter into an agreement with NRCS, they give you 80 percent of the funds. They give you a time frame. The work itself is not as critical, but critical as far as the time frame.”
The bids will be for sites near the Travel Inn, 1675 N. Frontage Road, and Pauline Drive in Kings. Erosion is threatening both spots.
“We’ll award the contract after we advertise, and work will get started shortly,” Rainer said.
Also during the meeting, the board authorized the clerk to advertise sealed proposals for engineering services for a 1250-kilowatt generator as a backup for the Water Treatment Plant.
In closed session, the board voted to hire a lifeguard at the City Pool at a wage of $7.25 per hour.
