Vicksburg Mayor Paul Winfield, left, and Police Chief Walter Armstrong, center, swear Mitchell Dent into office as deputy police chief during a City of Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting Monday at City Hall Annex. Dent, 54, was chief of the department for about a year a half until 2001, when he was replaced by Tommy Moffett, who served as chief for the eight years of the Laurence Leyens administrations. Since 2004, Dent has been working as an investigator for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. At the VPD, Dent replaces Jeffrey Scott, who resigned after six months on the job, and after leaving the Jackson Police Department.
