Donald Oakes, who was superintendent of the Vicksburg Warren School District from 2001 to 2003 and interim superintendent for a year before that, will assume the interim role again.

By unanimous vote of trustees Tuesday night, Oakes will step into the role of seven-year Superintendent Dr. James Price, who retires today.

The decision was announced after a 30-minute closed session that followed an earlier two-hour closed session after which four candidates were named as finalists for Price’s position on a permanent basis.

“I told them I was glad to do it,” Oakes said this morning. He spent more than 35 years as teacher and administrator at Vicksburg and Warren County schools, including Warren Central High School and now-defunct Jett and Halls Ferry elementary and Temple high schools, before moving into central office roles for five years.
