Louisiana officials were awaiting the autopsy results of a 17-year-old Tallulah girl who died Wednesday night after falling from a 14-foot aluminum boat into a borrow pit across the Mississippi River from Vicksburg.

Lt. Scott Watson of the Law Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said the body of Jacqueline Foster, who fell from the boat while fishing with her father near the Mississippi River Mainline Levee, was sent to the New Orleans Coroner’s Office Thursday. The autopsy was completed, and her body was returned to Tallulah Friday morning. The results were pending, Watson said, but a report would likely be available Monday.

Jacqueline’s father, Wesley Crumpton of Tallulah, reported to the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office at 8:50 p.m. that his daughter had fallen. Her body was recovered at about 2 a.m. Thursday, officials said. Neither father nor daughter were wearing a life preserver, said Capt. Alan Bankston, regional supervisor for the Law Enforcement Division of the LDWF.

Madison Parish’s coroner, Dr. Thomas Neuman, called to the scene just after the body was found, said Jacqueline had undergone a tracheostomy, a procedure that leaves a hole in the trachea and inhibits the ability to hold breath.

The drowning is being investigated as an accident.
