Venom win white division championship

The Vicksburg Venom earned the white division championship in the 2010 USSSA Global World Series in Cordova, Tenn. on Sunday with a 3-2 win over the Oklahoma Cubs.
With the game tied at 2 at the end of six innings, the game went to extra innings. In the top of the seventh with two outs, Lane Hynum singled up the middle, and then stole second, before Brooks Boolos came through with a triple to the wall in right center off Cubs reliever Hunter Sumner for the game winner. Venom pitcher Dale Griffith earned the victory in his second inning of relief in the bottom of the frame, inducing two groundouts and a strikeout.
Matthew Register got things started for the Venom in the top of the third with a bloop single to right. Then, Hynum doubled to drive in the first run, and Boolos followed with a single to drive in Hynum to put the Venom ahead 2-0.
Venom starter Tyler Smith was strong in five innings of work. He gave up two runs and five hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Leadoff hitter Hynum was 3-for-4, with a double, two singles, and scored twice. Brooks Boolos was 2-for-4 with a triple and a single and two RBIs. Taft Nesmith was 2-for-3.
