Dorothy T. Gott

Dorothy T. Gott died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. She was 89.
Born in Presque Isle, Maine, Mrs. Gott was a resident of Vicksburg for the past 30 years. She was a graduate of the Aroostook State Normal School, a training school for teachers in Presque Isle, and the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, now the Palmer Theological Seminary.
After her high school graduation, she was organist for the United Baptist Church in Presque Isle. Mrs. Gott served as a missionary for eight years in the Belgian Congo. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, where she was pianist for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Gott; her parents, Otis A. Thompson and Margaret Keirstead Thompson Roope and her stepfather, Robert Roope; two brothers, the Rev. Donald Thompson and his wife, Lucy, and the Rev. Keith Thompson; brother-in-law, George O. Barker; and a sister-in-law, Sue Roope.
She is survived by a sister, Jean T. Barker of Bar Harbor, Maine; three brothers, Robert Roope Jr. (Regina) of Presque Isle, Edward Roope of Portland, Maine, and William Roope (Brenda) of Winterport, Maine; numerous nieces and nephews; and her caregivers and adopted family, Alvin and Carolyn Holman and family.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lighthouse Baptist Church with Dr. E.L. Sharp and Dr. Mike Sharp officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home and Friday at Lighthouse Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until the service.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Holman Jr., Bennie Holman, Terry Russell, Tommy Stokes, Sammy Stokes and Chris Ables.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Pierce III and the membership of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
