Schools are scary

When I went to school from 1942 through 1954 it was all about getting an education. It was a very simple thing. A child got on a bus each morning, went to school, spent a quiet, obedient day learning and then was delivered back home when school was out.
Not even once did any parents worry about the safety of their kids while the kids were in school. From the time we got on the bus in the morning until getting off it that evening, we belonged to those entrusted with our care. We all felt we were in a safe environment because we were.
Now just riding on the bus is not completely safe. Proof of that is how many kids I see arriving in private vehicles. I do not know about other schools, but I would estimate it is nearly 25 percent at Redwood.
When I hear all the horror stories about the junior highs just off Mission 66, it is really frightening. Kids who go or have gone there are where one gets the real truth. It will not be in the Post or anywhere else. Girls will tell you they cannot walk the halls between classes without being grabbed in places they should not be touched. They are threatened with being raped, are propositioned daily and are constantly subjected to the most vulgar language known to mankind.
Even teachers are cursed and threatened, but nothing is done. The only thing missing there is discipline. Kids do just about whatever they want without fear. Teachers are afraid to discipline anyone. If they would talk, they would tell you it gets worse every year.
One only has to take a short visit to St. Aloysius High School to see they have dealt with the problem of discipline there. In fact, they do not have a discipline problem. Why is it the other schools are not doing what they do there?
The overall answer is simple. If you cause trouble continually and refuse to live within the rules, you should not be there. If you act like an animal, you need to be dealt with like an animal.
