Casino tax resolution remains uncertain

A second closed session over protests by two Vicksburg casinos of county-assessed tax bills ended Monday with no resolution, ensuring more uncertainty about how much revenue the county will collect in 2010-11.

By Oct. 1, supervisors must have a new spending plan that sets a rate of property taxation to fund county government and the Vicksburg Warren School District.

The two appeals, by Riverwalk and Ameristar casinos, remain active in Warren County Circuit Court. Both center on methods used to measure improvements and existing property at the two gaming houses.

Supervisors will hold a hearing at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7 to adopt a final version of the budget.
