DECATUR, Ala. — Elizabeth I. Humphries, 79, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, died Aug. 22, 2010, at Decatur (Ala.) General Hospital.
Elizabeth was born to Louie G. and Irene Patterson McDonald on Oct. 18, 1930. On Aug. 27, 1949, she married James Levoyd Humphries and celebrated 57 happy and wonderful years together until his death in 2007.
She was a longtime member of the Ninth Street United Methodist Church. After being a housewife and raising her five children, Elizabeth went to work at Rogers Department Store in the Children’s Department.
Her interests included ceramics, gardening, playing cards and traveling with the Alabama Good Samaritan RV Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Dietz and husband Sam of Decatur and Beverly Hopper of Hartselle, Ala.; and three sons, Michael L. Humphries and wife Pat of Vicksburg and Tony Humphries and wife Danette and Tim Humphries and wife Becky, all of Decatur. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Peck Funeral Home Chapel. John Rutland of Ninth Street United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Burningtree Memorial Gardens immediately after the service.
Pallbearers will be Todd Roberts, Derek Humphries, Dylan Humphries, Matthew Hopper, Kenneth Humphries and Joe Richardson.
Dustin Humphries will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley in Decatur, Ninth Street United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
