Ruby Lee Phelps Alvarez died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.

Mrs. Alvarez was born in Vicksburg to Charlie Phelps and Ruby Lewis Phelps. She graduated in 1943 from Magnolia Avenue High School. She worked as an elevator operator at The Valley and had been a deaconess and member at Spring Hill M.B. Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Guillermo Alvarez; and two sisters, Bettie Stamps and Mary Preacely.

Survivors include her uncle, Tom Lewis of Vicksburg; two nephews, Charlie Preacely and Woodrow Preacely, both of New York; and friends and other relatives, including cousins Gloria Dorsey and Sherrie Phelps Moran, both of Vicksburg.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
