The new superintendent of the Vicksburg-Warren School District will speak Sept. 15 at the monthly meeting of the Vicksburg Warren County Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Elizabeth Duran Swinford was hired this summer to replace Dr. James Price, who retired. The first woman to lead the 9,000-student district comes from East Baton Rouge Parish where she worked since 2003, most recently as assistant superintendent for human resources.

Previously, she was director of certified personnel for Caddo Parish Schools, and in her career has been a teacher, dean of students, assistant principal and principal at schools in Florida and California.

Lunch is $12 and will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center.
