This is the time St. Mary’s a fixture of Bolton’s past, future

“Now, it’s time,” Terry Brantley said.

She was talking about St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Bolton. It’s been closed for about 15 years, but efforts are under way and work is in progress to open it again.

“All these years, people have wanted this to happen,” she said, “but maybe it just wasn’t the right time.”

For the last several Saturdays, volunteers have been getting the building ready, and those cleaning and repairing and ripping out the old carpet weren’t just Episcopalians — the youths of Bolton’s Baptist congregation were there along with help from the next-door Methodists.

“It’s like everything evolved at this one point,” said Terry, who is a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church at Bovina. “It’s like God just came down and said, ‘This is the time. You’ve got to do something,’ so it is happening.”
