A Vicksburg teen was arrested Tuesday morning after an investigation into an accidental shooting showed the gun had been stolen.
Carl Byrd, 17, 2601 Rosedown St., told police he accidentally shot himself in a finger and his girlfriend in the leg while at her house on Aug. 14, Lt. Bobby Stewart said. Both were taken to River Region Medical Center, where his girlfriend was treated and released, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said. Karel said Byrd was transferred to another hospital, which was not identified.
Stewart said after an investigation, the handgun was found to be stolen and Byrd was arrested by police at 9:47 a.m. while in class at Vicksburg High School. He was charged with possession of a stolen firearm and released from the Warren County Jail on a $10,000 bond, Stewart said.
