Harvey Kimzey Ashe

TUNICA — Harvey Kimzey Ashe, a former Vicksburg resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at his home in Tunica. He was 85.

Mr. Ashe was born in Strayhorn, Miss., served in the Marine Corps during World War II and worked at Merchants National Bank in Vicksburg. He was employed by the Chamber of Commerce in Senatobia before moving to Tunica in 1956 and working at Planters Bank. He served as vice president and president of Tunica County Bank, which later became Northwest Bank and Citizens Bank & Trust. He retired in June 1993.

He served as a Tunica alderman for 24 years before serving as mayor from 1989 through 1993.

Mr. Ashe was a member and elder of Tunica Presbyterian Church, a member of the Tunica Lions Club, Tunica Rotary Club, Robert Andrews Lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Arkabutla chapter of Eastern Star. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Northwest Mississippi Community College, was a Rotary Paul Harris fellow and had received the Lions Club’s Melvin Jones Award.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Benford Ashe and Howard Ashe; and a sister, Mabel Key.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Louis Bell Ashe of Tunica; three daughters, Dale White of Marietta, Ga., Martha Ashe of Bolton, Mass., and Betty Ashe of Antioch, Tenn.; a sister, Laura Laughlin of Calhoun City; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Tunica Presbyterian Church with Dr. Paul Husband officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Nowell Memorial Funeral Home in Tunica.

Pallbearers will be deacons of Tunica Presbyterian Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Boren and members of the Blue & White Restaurant morning coffee club.

Memorials may be made to Tunica Academy, Tunica Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity.
