Two from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center have received awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Dr. Jane Smith of ERDC’s Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory received the 2010 Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award, and Lucy Priddy of ERDC’s Geotechnical and Structures Lab received the Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award for Professional Achievement.
Smith, secretary of the Coastal Engineering Research Council, was recognized for her leadership and training efforts and work in alleviating flooding after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She has a bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University and a master’s from Mississippi State University, both in civil engineering. She has a doctorate in ocean engineering from the University of Delaware.
Priddy’s award recognizes engineering professionals 35 and younger. Selection is based on service and leadership.
Priddy has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and a master’s from Mississippi State, both in civil engineering.
She was ASCE’s 2009 Mississippi Young Engineer of the Year.
ASCE, created in 1852, represents more than 146,000 civil engineers.
