When a 17-day national campaign to tighten up on traffic violations wound up last week, the Vicksburg Police Department was quite pleased with the results.
“We did extremely well, considering the size of our city and population,” Police Chief Walter Armstrong said Wednesday. “If we can save just one life by way of taking a drunk driver off the roads, then our efforts were successful.”
A total of 278 citations was issued in the Over the Limit, Under Arrest campaign. The number included 31 arrests for driving under the influence, 28 felony arrests and the arrest of two fugitives, including a Vicksburg man charged in a Jackson homicide.
