Porters Chapel finished off its fast-pitch season with a doubleheader loss to state tournament-bound Veritas.

The Lady Eagles finished the season 4-15 and 2-8 in district play. PCA coach Amanda Yocum said the club made progress during the fall and is looking forward to the future.

“We had some district wins this fall, so that was good,” Yocum said. “Today, though, we didn’t play defense like I had wanted but we did make some contact at the plate.

“Overall, I like where we are going. We just need the girls to come back next year and work on learning more of the ins and outs of the game. They can do the basics. It’s just the small things. We also need our pitchers to learn another pitch.”

PCA played better against Veritas in the second game. A good running catch in left by Kirsten Dickard kept Veritas from extending a 9-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles got their lone run of the day in the third inning when Hillary Dickard singled and scored.

Veritas (27-5) was led by pitcher Haley Morris, who struck out nine. Bailey Wood had an RBI double to key a five-run first. Taylor Warriner had an RBI triple in the second to make it 9-0.
