Linda Fondren, a gym owner and creator of Shape Up Vicksburg, has advanced to the top 10 of CNN Heroes, a televised tribute to those who improve their communities.

Fondren, who was featured on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric Wednesday, is in the running against other crusaders from across the world for the chance at $100,000 toward their cause. The winner, who will be called the 2010 CNN Hero of the Year, will be chosen by the most online votes cast by Nov. 18. To vote, visit www.heroes.cnn.com.

A televised broadcast of the top 10 and announcing of the winner will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 25 on CNN.

Fondren was nominated in July for launching last fall Shape Up Vicksburg, a citywide, 17-week weight-loss challenge that has evolved into a monthly walking club and claims more than 400 members.
