Ninety-nine points. Over 850 yards in combined offense. A near-record setting performance from Vicksburg quarterback Cameron Cooksey and receiver Alvin Stamps. Yet it will go down as a loss as Grenada spoiled Vicksburg’s homecoming with a 54-45 win Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

The loss in the Region 2-6A opener for both teams keeps Vicksburg (0-5, 0-1) winless. The win was the visiting Chargers’ (1-4, 1-0) first this season.

Gators coach Alonzo Stevens was at a loss for words.

“I’m speechless,” Stevens said.

Grenada scored six touchdowns in the second half. Vicksburg got three and a field goal.
