Among the stars was Alvin “A.J.” Stamps of Vicksburg, who had 207 receiving yards in a 54-45 loss to Grenada on Friday. His receiving yard performance is just 21 yards short of the county single-game record, 228 yards, held by Vicksburg’s Michael Sweet against McComb in 1973.

Not far behind was Porters Chapel wide receiver Chris Marshall, who had 10 catches for 203 yards, a school record, and three touchdowns in a 31-24 win over Prentiss Christian.

Vicksburg quarterback Cameron Cooksey threw for 370 yards, putting him third in the record books behind Vicksburg quarterbacks James Jackson (406 yards, against Brookhaven in 2003) and Tommy Curtis (383, against Clinton in 1997).

In the area, few can keep pace with the game enjoyed in eight-man football by Briarfield’s Fuad Ahmad, who had eight touchdowns and rushed for 337 yards on 14 carries in an 82-40 win over Christian Collegiate.

Tallulah Academy’s Cody Petty had 261 return yards, 80 receiving yards and three touchdowns, two of which came on kickoff returns of 80 and 90 yards in a 56-33 loss to Claiborne Academy.
