The engagement of Mallory Buie Barnes of Ridgeland to Michael Hunter Shinn of Flowood is announced today. Vows will be exchanged at 3 p.m. Dec. 11, 2010, at Luckett Lodge in Brandon. A reception will follow.

Miss Barnes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joey Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Barnes, all of Ridgeland. She is the granddaughter of Elwood Ratliff and the late Lowry Ratliff of Clinton and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Barnes of Jackson. She is the great-granddaughter of H.L. Dickerson and the late Frances Dickerson of Jackson.

Mr. Shinn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Shinn of Vicksburg. He is the grandson of Jess M. Ross and the late Joseph Morrell of Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Shinn of Meridian.

The bride-elect is a 2004 graduate of Ridgeland High School. She attended Mississippi State University and Holmes Community College and graduated in 2008 from the University of Mississippi School of Health Related Professions, where she received a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.

Miss Barnes is a dental hygienist at Mayette Family Dentistry in Brandon.

The prospective groom is a 2004 graduate of Porters Chapel Academy, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Hall of Fame and football and baseball teams. He received an Associate of Applied Science degree in physical therapy assistance from Meridian Community College in 2008.

Mr. Shinn is a physical therapy assistant at Methodist Rehabilitation Center in Jackson.
